Choose a path that will bring you joy
Dear Graduates,
Congratulations on reaching your goals: whether that is graduation, college acceptance, scholarships, entry into the “adult world” or beginning a career. You and your families have so much to be proud of, and I must tell you that I am proud of each of you as well. I am constantly impressed, seeing the fine young leaders you have all become. I see the compassionate ways you treat others, the thoughtful and intelligent discourse that you hold on all subjects. You do not shy away from difficult subjects, or complex topics.
I am proud of your fearlessness in facing adversity, your grounding in faith that enables you to move forward, knowing that you are never alone.
You are in an enviable position — the world is at your feet. You have so many choices ahead of you. Do not be overwhelmed. Somewhere during and after the frenetic activity of graduation, take some time to yourself to really breathe; to pause and reflect.
Standing at the crossroads of your future, take that moment to absorb the words of St. Thérèse of Lisieux: “Jesus, help me to simplify my life by learning what you want me to be — and becoming that person.”
My prayer for you is that you choose a path that will bring you joy, a deep and soul-fulfilling joy filled with God’s grace and strength.
Strive to never take things for granted; rejoice in the blessings that are abundantly presented to you throughout your life. As St. Gianna Molla said, “The secret of happiness is to live moment by moment and to thank God for all that He, in His goodness, sends to us day after day.”
Congratulations, Graduates! You have an entire community supporting you, lifting you in prayer, and confident in your future success.
God bless you,
