The year 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic presented challenges that would have been unthinkable just the previous year. And while lockdowns impacted employment and schools and social life, the ministry of the Catholic Church continued through it all. On May 11, Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, announced the re-opening of parishes for public weekend liturgies and commemorated the occasion – in conjunction with the Commemorative Air Force 0 by taking to the skies and visiting 30 locations by flyover, praying for the archdiocese during the pandemic as church bells rang. Then, about a month later, on June 13, the archbishop celebrated the feast of St. Anthony of Padua and the feast of Corpus Christi with a Mass at San Fernando Cathedral. At the conclusion of the liturgy, the San Antonio prelate processed into Main Plaza with a monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament and offered a prayer of protection from COVID-19 for the entire archdiocese.
